FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• What insurance plans are accepted?
Insurance contracts covering mental health services vary widely, and change often. It is important that you know your insurance carrier, understand your benefits, and whether the therapist is in-network before your first appointment. Listed below are the insurance networks affiliated with each therapist:
Susan Holstein, Ph.D.: Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BC/BS)
Melissa Sharp, Psy.D.: Aetna, BC/BS, Magellan, Medicare, Perspectives, PHCS
Ann Rotter, Ph.D.: BC/BS, Medicare
Pauline Gekas, LMFT.: BC/BS, Magellan, MHN, United Behavioral Health
We suggest that you contact your insurance company to determine if your provider is in-network and to confirm insurance coverage. Mental health benefits are often much different than medical benefits. Additionally, information obtained from insurance websites may not always be current. We recommend that you call your insurance company directly; the telephone number is usually located on the back of your insurance card. Please remember that a quote of benefits is NOT a guarantee of payment. MBS cannot be responsible for misquoted or inaccurate information. The client is responsible for all fees not covered by insurance.

• Can a psychologist prescribe medication?
No. Only an M.D. (medical doctor) can prescribe medication. To obtain medication, you must make an appointment with your PCP (primary care physician) or a psychiatrist who is an M.D. specializing in mental health and psychotropic medications. Your therapist can provide you with the appropriate referrals if medication management or an assessment for medication is indicated.
